So last night, I had the old card in while I plopped the new card in. Downloaded the proper driver for RTX 2070 and installed it.
All is well now.
Oddly though, the RTX 2070 somehow doesn’t want to show even basic details until driver is installed. How is one supposed to build a PC from scratch with this thing if you can’t even power on without an additional, support card.
RTX 2070 did not fix the problem I was having. Still stupid slow repainting things so now I suspect it is not video related...

wait, you can’t use an RTX card unless you have another card? what about those with only 1 pcie slot motherboards? sounds a bit shit to me

Most mobo have a very basic gpu for starting up so you can get drivers installed. At least my b450 had one so I could install my rx580 drivers.

I took out the old card I was using which worked. Plugged in RTX 2070. Nothing on screens. As per article I posted yesterday, many suggested I use the onboard video or use old card in conjun ction with the new one to see what I am doing - mainly download the driver and install. Once installed, it wants to reboot. Instead of reboot now, I selected reboot later and shut down instead. Once shut down, I yanked old card out and started up again. All was fine...
So either I misunderstood something or what but it seems the beefy all powerful video card cannot paint command prompt window until drivers are installed. Sad.

Yeah. most. but not all and that’s my beef. What if you don’t.
Any video card I used before show stuff. Not pretty. Terrible resolution, but good enough to get you to install drivers. Show you boot up screen etc.
This is terrible.

Yep. Without it I wouldn’t have been able to install the headphones.

so before you rip out the old card you need to install the new drivers, I’ll try and remember that when I upgrade, though probably going to hold off for the 30 series and fingers crossed that isn’t an issue with them

Honestly, even though I suggested doing that to see if the card was alive, I’m pretty surprised that it worked...
Glad it’s running though!

Yep. thanks for the assist.
I’ve been using same cards for all the machines here and they work ok. Except that some machines run more shit than others.
Problem I am experiencing with this one machine seemed video related, but now I see that it isn’t. It’s probably software or hard drive related. Both of which will be hacked up tomorrow night.
This machine will give me performance I expect!!!
